About Twitter attribution

Localytics can track the users you recieve from Twitter campaigns by becoming your Twitter mobile measurement partner.

First, set up Twitter attribution in the Dashboard. On Android, the Twitter integration uses the Google Advertising ID (GAID) to identify your new end users. As a consequence, your app must include Localytics SDK version 2.60 or later and must include the Google Play Service SDK.

Once you've set up Twitter attribution, create and run all your campaigns up in the Twitter interface. Localytics won't know about any of your campaigns until you actually acquire a user from a campaign and the user starts sending us information.

You'll see three different Twitter-related acquisition sources in the Dashboard.

Source Description
Twitter Paid ad displayed in the Twitter app
Twitter Publisher Network Paid ad displayed on the Twitter Publisher Network
Twitter Organic An unpaid tweet from you or someone else that generated a user

Please note that Twitter authentication expires after thirty days, so you'll be prompted to authenticate again if you need to change your Attribution Settings. This doesn't affect your Localytics integration.

There are a couple of reasons Twitter might show a larger number of installs than Localytics. Twitter has a 28-day click lookback window, but Localytics has a 14-day click lookback window. Twitter also isn't aware of all the acquisition sources that Localytics knows about, and if a user clicks on a different ad after clicking on a Twitter ad, Localytics will attribute the user to the last click, while Twitter will take credit for the user even if they weren't the last click. If you like, you can configure the lookback window on Twitter to match Localytics' 14-day window.
